Scanning Process & Interior File Preparation

The goal of our scanning workflow is to create a clean, consistent, press-ready interior PDF suitable for print-on-demand production. DSI focuses exclusively on the interior book block.

Cover design and layout are handled separately by your graphic designer or publisher.

1. Disbind the Book

The printed book is carefully disbound. The spine is removed and pages are separated for high-quality flatbed capture.

2. 600 DPI Scanning

Each page is scanned at 600 DPI bitonal resolution TIFF master files. This same TIFF file can be used to output editable text for ebook formatting.

3. Image Cleanup & Page Normalization

Pages are deskewed, despeckled, cleaned and normalized for consistent tonal density and uniform presentation.

4. Interior PDF Assembly

The cleaned page images are assembled into a press-ready interior PDF. Pagination, trim size, and printer specifications are confirmed at this stage.

5. Publication Page

A publication, imprint, or copyright page is inserted during assembly and final page review is performed.

Our final PDF interior files are compatible with Lightning Source, Ingram Spark, Amazon KDP, and other POD platforms. All files are formatted for upload, proofing, and reproducible reprinting.
