What is included in the book scanning process?
Every project includes: 600 DPI bitonal scanning for high text clarity, and page registration for a clean book block. TIFF master files for archival use along with the press-ready interior PDF formatted for print-on-demand (POD).

Why is there a 20-page evaluation sample?
Before full production, Digital Scanning creates a 20-page evaluation scan so you can check image quality, confirm any greyscale handling needs, and receive a firm quote based on total page count and book condition.

Does the evaluation fee count toward the total project cost?
Yes. The $50 evaluation fee is credited toward your final project cost if you choose to proceed with full production.

How does Digital Scanning handle books with photographs or halftones?
Pages containing photos, shaded illustrations, maps, or halftones are handled separately to retain tonal detail. These pages are quoted after evaluation.

What file formats will I receive?
Deliverables include:600 DPI TIFF files, a press ready PDF compatible with POD platforms. If half tones are scanned then a separate folder will contain those pages. DSI will insert the images into the POD PDF.

Are the PDFs suitable for Amazon KDP, Ingram Spark, or Lightning Source?
Yes. Digital Scanning produces interior PDFs formatted for submission to today’s leading POD providers, including Lightning Source, Ingram Spark, and Amazon KDP.
